How to Combat Wedding Planning Stress When You're Busy

You might be a mere month or so away from your wedding day, and you would love to be basking in these last few weeks of engaged bliss. Instead you’re feeling tired, stressed out and overwhelmed. Maybe you need to check in with guests who haven’t RSVP’d, get vendor contracts signed and figure out when to apply for your marriage license. Oh, and you’ve probably got a day job and a normal life that is on overdrive at the moment.

It’s time to take a moment – or two – to relax! Self-care is an important part of living a healthy, happy life. Here are a few simple ideas for quick and natural stress relief to help you feel happier and more peaceful while you plan your wedding day:

  • Plan a day to hang out with your bestie – no wedding talk allowed. In the hyper digital age, it's so important to unplug and connect in person. Get away from all of it and catch up on news that has nothing to do with organza, flatware, delivery times or a cake.
  • Stop trying to keep it all in your head. You’ll forget and get more frustrated. List all of the things you need to get done on paper.
  • Prioritize your to-do list in a healthy way. Don’t assemble your favors, when you haven’t finished finalizing your guest list. Organize your plan and check off the important items first so that you aren’t scrambling to finish everything at the last minute.
  • Schedule some ‘me’ time. Use things you already have around the house and plan a spa day in your own home. Here’s an easy, stress relieving recipe for a Green Tea Body Scrub that will leave you glowing and refreshed:

Green Tea and Lemon Body Scrub

  • 2 cups Epsom Salts
  • 2 tablespoons baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons warm coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons loose green tea
  • Zest from one lemon
  • 8 drops of Bergamot essential oil (optional)

Mix Epsom Salts and baking soda in a bowl. Add oil and mix thoroughly. Add tea and zest (and essential oil, if you are using it). Mix everything together and add to a sealing container. This relaxing and rejuvenating scrub will last for a couple of months (if you don’t use it all quickly!).

Unsure where to start? For a self-care routine to be effective you need to be deliberate and mindful of the act, so no multi-tasking. Establish a morning ritual, as we previously wrote about, to support mindfulness and help bring focus to your day.

Still need a boost? One of my favorite rituals is my mid-morning tea—the simple act of gathering the leaves, taking in the aroma of the tea while practicing breath awareness followed by slowly sipping it from my favorite cup is a subtle reminder to slow down and enjoy the experience.
