Bamboo Matcha Whisk Use & Care

With the right tools, you’ll look forward to making matcha part of your daily routine. The bamboo whisk (chasen) is a beautiful, functional tool for making a delicious and frothy cup of matcha green tea. And, it's fun to use.

Each whisk is hand carved from a single piece of bamboo. The prongs are designed to dissolve matcha, hot or cold, so you get a creamy, foamy traditional green tea or latte every time.

How to store your Whisk

When you first receive your chasen, take it out of the container and soak the prongs in cold water for a few minutes. Store your whisk on a stand or upright but never back in the container.

Before each use, take a moment to inspect the whisk and remove any broken prongs to avoid a mishap.

How to use your whisk to make matcha

Add 175 degree water to the powder in your tea bowl and whisk briskly in an “M” and "W" shape using your wrist until frothy. Enjoy the calming ritual.

How to clean your matcha whisk

Clean the chasen under cold water. Gently rub the prongs to remove powder. Pat dry then air dry.

When to replace your whisk

Know that the shape of your whisk will change over time. The knot will open and straighten after each use. This is expected and nothing to worry about. If you use your whisk daily, replace it every few months.
